I actually did know that, thanks.
You can hate Snape if you want, and in fact, you can hate him as much as you want. If you have a legitimate reason for hating Snape and you make a post about it, I’m not even gonna care.
But what’s flooding my dash is basically “ew snape is creepy” and “friendly reminder that snape is abusive”, and there really is no substance in the post itself. They aren’t long, thoughtful, reasonable, discussion-worthy posts that even warrant some sort of response. In fact, at this point, all I’m seeing is a mob mentality that Jily can’t happen without the entire fandom hating Snape, or that Snape was just a creepy fuck head who (gasp), in his all his broken-hearted glory, clutched Lily Evan’s dead body.
Look, you might not agree with my views that although Snape’s past doesn’t redeem his actions, it explains them and gives him a reason. And I’m okay with that, I’m not asking you to love him. I’m not asking you to even like him.
I’m asking the fandom to seriously be more mature, especially regarding a character that people are apparently still conflicted about, and to stop making posts that are just mindless hate towards a certain group of people.
Also, I’m not grossed out by people’s opinions. I’m grossed out by the way they’re handling them.
