tutorial for this hermione graphic→ requested by victoryforthedaleks

hello friends. today i’m going to show you how i made this little graphic.
it’s pretty simple so i think you only need moderate ps knowledge and patience.

first, we’ll do hermione. i opened the picture i wanted, which was this bad boy.
1. open your image and duplicate the layer.
2. i used topaz with the following settings.

image

from drunkandcoloring.
3. then i sharpened using smart sharpen with these settings.

4. i applied this* psd and played with the settings a bit.
*i have NO idea where i downloaded this psd, but it is called bradfordzm psd#3. NOTE: I DID NOT MAKE THIS PSD.
5. i wanted it lighter so i applied a curves layer below the psd and brightened it a bit. i prefer using curves over
a brightness/contrast adjustment layer.

6. flatten the image.

we’re done with hermione for now. let’s create the background!
we’re going to use textures from: number 26-3, number 110, number 126, and finally number 108.

1. create a new image (500x600).
2. first apply 26-3 and adjust the size using the transform controls until it looks like this. note: i didn’t like the little
crest at the bottom, so i used my clone tool to get rid of it.
2. apply texture 110. set to screen at 50%.
3. apply texture 126. set to multiply at 100%. we’re going to wait to apply texture 108.

go back to hermione and copy/paste her on top of the textures.

image

1. i wanted her to look a bit… healthier? so i added a black and gradient map set to soft light at 100% and a warming photo filter
set at 10%. on both of those layers, right click the layer and select “create clipping mask”. this way, they only apply to layer below
(in our case, hermione) so that the textures don’t change colors.

2. now we’ve got to erase hermione’ background. i prefer to use half layer mask and half pen tool. you can use whatever you want.

image

3. now we’re going to add texture 108 UNDER hermione’s layer. set to darken at 100%. i changed the size a little with my
transform tool.
4. i erased one of the roses, so to do that, you can use a vector mask or your clone tool.

You’re finished! Flatten the image and save as .png. Let’s compare the original with the one i made whilst doing the tutorial:

(second one is new)

I THINK THAT’S PRETTY CLOSE. if you have any questions, regardless of how silly you may think they are, send me an ask! i’m a nice person, i swear.
